“Sleep is a golden chain that ties health and our bodies together”
Life can often move so quickly that you hardly have time to stop and relax. It can make having good and adequate sleep seem like an unachievable dream. Students often fall short of sleep due to their assignments and academics and are seen relying on energy drinks, coffee, or tea. While this may help them out a few times but it can prove to be harmful to them in the longer run.
Sleep is as crucial to health as nutrition and exercise. Your emotions, health, and cognitive function, all improve with adequate sleep. Lack of regular, good-quality sleep increases the chance of developing a variety of illnesses and disorders. These include dementia and obesity as well as heart disease and stroke.
Misconception
Often children think that if they didn’t have adequate sleep a day they can make up for it by staying in bed for extra hours the next day. It works! But making up for a week’s worth of sleep on the weekend won’t be sufficient for your body to get the rest that it needs.
Sleep is as important as sports. Children who are into sports should know that previous research in team sports has shown that better sleep duration and quality are associated with success. Sleep can help in muscle generation, fat burning, recharging the brain, etc.
Getting enough sleep should be made as important as working out. Create a schedule for your child that works for them and experiment with ways to increase the quality and duration of their sleep.
