Junk food can be yummy, probably the best thing you’ve ever tasted. But have ever thought about how unhealthy it can be? While greasy fast food may not be the healthiest option, there is no denying how delicious it is. Every bite is an explosion of wonderful flavor because of a long list of dubious additions. Since junk food has no nutritional value, children who consume it are not receiving the necessary nutrients to develop into healthy, strong adults. While it is well established that fast food can be extremely unhealthy, we are still determined to binge on them.

How does fast food damage our bodies?

Brain function may decline as a result of excessive junk food consumption. Several food kinds are detrimental to the development of the brain. Junk food contains chemicals and preservatives, which may have negative impacts on cognition. Some foods have been found to have traces of pesticides in them and which could harm the functioning of the brain. Omega-3 acids which are essential for the best possible brain function are found to be lacking in fast food. This could lead to a number of prevalent mental health conditions, including depression and ADHD. It’s even believed that a lack of Omega-3 fatty acids may increase one’s risk of developing schizophrenia and bipolar disorder. The rate of obesity among children has also risen drastically over the last few years. About one-third of children are obese.

How does the canteen culture play a role in diet?

Often, we will come across situations wherein the children will ask us to let them try canteen food. Is that a concern? The answer is YES. This situation might have occurred due to peer pressure. Children notice what others in their surroundings consume quite closely. Due to this, they might have the urge to try fast food, especially what their school canteen sells. The “Canteen Culture” can have a huge influence on your child’s diet. They might get tempted to eat from the canteen, watching their peers do the same. It is extremely crucial to make sure that you ask your child about their preferences for food and try to inculcate it into their meals.

If fast food is prohibited in schools, perhaps students will consume more healthy meals. This might make mental health issues among students less common. Additionally, it might help students perform better in class.
