Approach to Bullying

Bullying is always unwelcome, violent conduct displayed by teenagers that involves a real or perceived power imbalance. The majority of youngsters, if not all of them, have been teased at some point. Unfortunately, one can frequently see name-calling, insults, and mockery in playgrounds and classrooms. Bullying, though, is unique and more serious. When bullying occurs frequently, it can be extremely serious for the victim.

A victim might stay quiet…

Often children who are bullied stay quiet and do not end up reporting the acts. This can happen as they feel embarrassed about how their peers will take the news.  They feel that the bullying might escalate if they report the case or they fear their parent’s reaction. At times the victims are gaslighted and made to believe that the behaviour of the bullies is “normal”.

Effects of bullying

  • It can lead to anxiety, stress, and depression.
  • It can often lead to health complications.
  • It can often lead to poor academic performance.
  • Bullying can make them feel isolated and make it difficult for them to make social interactions.
  • It affects their self-esteem and confidence.

Parents should look out for their children, and build trust and a bond of friendship so that they feel comfortable sharing their experiences. Help your children build resilience and confidence! Children and teenagers who are resilient will be more self-assured, inquisitive, and able to adapt to their and fight their environment.
