It is extremely important to take care of our physical health, especially in the wake of the COVID pandemic. Everyone has had to adjust to various lifestyle changes in these times. Constantly being at home, one often seeks comfort in food and snacking. This is coupled with unlimited access to the kitchen and often a lack of routine when it comes to meals. Excessive snacking, particularly on processed, fried, and high calorie foods can lead to detrimental health outcomes.

The following are some tips for smart snacking:

Have a schedule for meals: even though your daily routine, when it comes to work, school, or other tasks may have changed completely, try sticking to the schedule of three meals per day, and allot a time frame for all. Do not skip any meals to prevent hunger between them.

Portion out your snacks: When you do want to consume snacks, take a portion out in a plate rather than sitting with the entire packet with you. Eating snacks straight out of the bag often leads to over-eating.

Healthy snacks: Opt for snacks high in protein, fiber, and healthy fats, like fruits, dry fruits, frozen yoghurt, kale chips, roasted chickpeas, sprouts, etc. These are more filling as well as healthier than traditional snacks like chips and biscuits.
